REPORTS TO: LEAD COORDINATOR
POSITION SUMMARY: The Art Instructor assists in the creation and maintenance of a Learning Center site for youth. He/She will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide remedial, basic and enrichment group instruction to youth using computers and other resources.
2. Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering and art history.
3. Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art.
4. Create art curriculum for students K-12 grade.
5. Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for NHA and community.
6. Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
7. Select and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records.
8. Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings.
9. Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools.
10. Ensures that the Learning Center functions smoothly and reliably.
11. Ensures the safety and security of personnel and computer equipment.
12. Assists in record keeping of attendance, activities, and participation.
13. Conducts routine assessments of Learning Center participants.
RELATED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
14. Assists the Center Lead Coordinator as required.
15. Attends and participates in meetings as required.
16. Assists on various projects as requested by Creative Arts Coordinator and Administration.
17. Work with students to build up submissions for calendar.
18. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and other management as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to work with a wide variety of families and children from different backgrounds.
2. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to prepare accurate and comprehensive reports as needed.
3. Ability to work independently.
4. Basic knowledge of computers and peripheral equipment.
5. At least 2 years experience with basic software, i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics.
6. Experience in and interest in working with diverse populations of children in a learning environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts minimum.
2. Two years' work experience as an Art Instructor.
3. Computer proficiency is desirable.
4. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
5. Must be bondable.
6. Possession of a valid Connecticut motor vehicle operator's license is preferred.
